LCS → Power Platform admin center: self-service environment migration is in public preview (D365 Finance)

Microsoft now lets you move management of your F&O environments from Lifecycle Services to the Power Platform admin center, one environment at a time.

What stood out to me:

✅ The database isn't moved. Only the control plane changes.
⏱️ Expect about 15 minutes of downtime per AOS instance.
⚠️ It's a one-way operation. After migration, LCS becomes read-only for that environment.
🧪 Sandboxes first. Microsoft doesn't recommend production migration during preview.
🚫 Not supported yet: cloud-hosted dev environments and environments using Commerce.

Before you migrate:
→ Link your environment to a Power Platform environment
→ Clear any storage capacity deficit
→ Deploy Unified Developer Environments
→ Set up Azure Pipelines for ALM, because LCS deployment workflows stop managing the environment after migration

My advice: build and test your new ALM process in parallel, migrate a low-risk sandbox, validate (including an environment copy), then roll out from there.

Is your team already planning for this shift?
